Dance-pop
singer Britney Spears was born in Kentwood, LA on
December 2, 1981; after honing her chops in local dance
showcases and church choirs, at age eight she auditioned
for a role on the Disney Channel's Mickey Mouse Club
show, and although the series' producers deemed her too
young for the job they were sufficiently impressed with
the girl's talent to assist her in gaining entry to New
York's Off-Broadway Dance Center and the Professional
Performing Arts School. After a series of television
commercials and stage appearances, at 11 Spears finally
joined The Mickey Mouse Club, where she remained
for two seasons; continuing on as a solo artist, she
signed to Jive Records and in early 1999 issued her
first LP ...Baby
One More Time.
The record was a massive hit, debuting atop the pop
charts and reeling off a series of radio smashes
including the title track, "(You
Drive Me) Crazy"
and "From
the Bottom
of My Broken Heart"
on its way to becoming the best-selling album ever
released by a teenage girl. Spears' success also spawned
legions of imitators, most notable among them Christina
Aguilera and Jessica
Simpson.
Her sophomore effort, Oops!...I
Did It Again,
followed in the spring of 2000. And the latest video
clip is overprotected…

Looks like a boy for Britney... A
boy named Preston Federline
MSNBC.MSN.com: Looks like Britney Spears is having a
boy. The expectant singer went on an after-hours
shopping spree at an exclusive Beverly Hills area baby
store where she bought all baby boy clothes.
"Her rep called the store, Petit Tresor, and had it
closed down and Britney came in with her body guards and
spent about $10,000," says a source."She has very good
taste, actually: elegant and simple. I was surprised."
Spears had been in the store several weeks ago where she
loaded up on items for girls, but says the source, "That
must have been a ruse or for someone else. This was
definitely for her unborn child." A spokeswoman for the
store said she could "neither confirm nor deny" the
Spears' shopping spree. But another source backs up the
buzz that baby Federline will be a boy: "They’re mulling
several names, but the one they favor is Preston."

Britney's family
week
Us Weekly:
Britney Spears reunited August 5th with Madonna at LA's
Kabbalah Centre. ''Lourdes (Madge's 8-year-old) seemed
very happy to see her,'' says an attendee. ''Near the
end of the service, Britney smiled and mouthed things to
her. They were very cute!''
However the week ended on a down note when a
photographer was shot in the leg August 6th with a
pellet gun.
Spears sunset bash at her rented Malibu home had a gypsy
theme, with Tiki torches and Indian tunes. As for baby
names? ''She's thinking Kevin Jr. or June, after her
grandfather,'' says a source.
On August 7th, her and Kevin's clans chartered a boat in
Marina del Rey, California. On-deck activities? Fishing
for the guys and sunbathing for the girls!

Britney's donation to
single and battered moms
Us Weekly:
Britney Spears has made a donation to the HotMomsClub.
The group sells clothes and accessories with funny
slogans like HotMomShell and puts a portion of the
proceeds toward helping battered, single, disabled and
homeless moms."
