Dance-pop
singer Britney Spears was born in Kentwood, LA on
December 2, 1981; after honing her chops in local dance
showcases and church choirs, at age eight she auditioned
for a role on the Disney Channel's Mickey Mouse Club
show, and although the series' producers deemed her too
young for the job they were sufficiently impressed with
the girl's talent to assist her in gaining entry to New
York's Off-Broadway Dance Center and the Professional
Performing Arts School. After a series of television
commercials and stage appearances, at 11 Spears finally
joined The Mickey Mouse Club, where she remained
for two seasons; continuing on as a solo artist, she
signed to Jive Records and in early 1999 issued her
first LP ...Baby
One More Time.
The record was a massive hit, debuting atop the pop
charts and reeling off a series of radio smashes
including the title track, "(You
Drive Me) Crazy"
and "From
the Bottom
of My Broken Heart"
on its way to becoming the best-selling album ever
released by a teenage girl. Spears' success also spawned
legions of imitators, most notable among them
Christina
Aguilera and Jessica Simpson.
Her sophomore effort, Oops!...I
Did It Again,
followed in the spring of 2000. And the latest video
clip is overprotected…

Britney
nominated at the People's Choice Awards
UsMagazine.com: Britney Spears' career is officially
in comeback mode.
It was announced Monday that the 26-year-old was
nominated for a People's Choice Award for her role
on How I Met Your Mother.
The category? Favorite scene-stealing star.
She's up against Luke Perry and Robin Williams, both
for Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
The singer starred as a dorky receptionist named
Abby in two episodes of the CBS show earlier this
year. On her first appearance in March, she helped
the show win its highest ratings ever.
Spears has been on a roll professionally.
She received thunderous applause when she performed
during Madonna's Sticky & Sweet concert show in L.A.
Nov. 6.
Her new single, "Womanizer," was No. 1 on the Hot
100 Billboard chart in October - her first tune to
top the list since 1999's "...Baby One More Time."
Her next album, Circus, drops on her 27th birthday,
Dec. 2.
The 35th Annual People's Choice Awards airs Jan. 7
on CBS. |
The
scoop on new dance audition
BritneySpears.com: Yesterday we got a photo from an
audition Britney held for an unknown upcoming
project. Today BritneySpears.com has details about
both the try-outs and what they were for!
We just found out that over 70 super talented
dancers came to a grueling audition for Britney's
new promotional tour. It was a really long day and
the pressure was really on! After a few rounds of
cuts the dancers finally got the chance to dance for
Britney, Andre and his agents and show them all what
they've got!
So what was Britney looking for? Three new guys for
her dance crew -- a "womanizer" (of course!) and two
"jester" types. We hear that the talent there was
AMAZING, which means that Britney's upcoming
performances are going to be out of this world!!!
Stay tuned for more exclusive news only on
BritneySpears.com and check out our exclusive pics
from the audition.

Womanizer
debuts at #4 in the UK
BritneySpears.com: "Womanizer" debuted at #4 on the
UK Singles chart on Sunday. That's quite a feat
considering the song is currently only available for
digital download and has sold 46,000 copies. The CD
single will be released on November 24 so there's
still a chance we'll see "Womanizer" at the top of
the UK Charts.
After all the buzz about the battle of the
songstresses (Britney, Christina, Leona and Beyonce
all going head to head) only Beyonce managed to
compete with our Brit, making it to #2.
If you haven't already, make sure you download
"Womanizer" from iTunes UK and mark your calendars
for November 24 so you remember to pick up a copy of
the CD single!

Christina
on Britney: "I always wish her the best"
People.com: Something Christina Aguilera and Britney
Spears must've learned in the Mickey Mouse Club:
compassion.
"I don't pass any judgment on what she does,"
Aguilera tells Britain's Daily Mail. "I always wish
her all the best."
Aguilera, 28, dismissed suggestions the two pop
divas were rivals.
"When we both started releasing records," she says,
"it must have seemed as if we were competing with
each other, but, in reality, Britney is someone that
I used to hold hands with."
The pair started out together on the Mickey Mouse
Club, along with fellow Mouseketeer - and future
Spears boyfriend - Justin Timberlake.
"We were silly little girls together on the Mickey
Mouse Club," Aguilera said of the duo's common
showbiz apprenticeship on on the Disney Channel.
"What a journey it has been for both of us!"
A journey, she says, that only started out at the
same place.
"We don't keep closely in touch with one another,"
she acknowledged. "Our lives have taken on two
different directions."

Britney
and Justin's mini reunion at Madonna concert
People.com: Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake
each took the stage in separate appearances at
Madonna's Sticky & Sweet tour at L.A.'s Dodger
Stadium Thursday night.
But, PEOPLE has learned, the two actually crossed
paths during rehearsal. Timberlake was first, and
then Spears came on stage to run through her part.
"They said 'hi' to each other. Justin was very
cool," a source says.
Spears also lingered and watched Timberlake's entire
sound check from the first few rows of the stands.
Adds another source, "This was a night for [Britney]
to enjoy, and not stress over. This was a good
moment for her to just enjoy and have fun."
And enjoy she did. Dressed in satin black pants and
white suit shirt with ruffle, Spears has been
appearing in a taped segment during Madonna's "Human
Nature" performance since the beginning of the tour.
Her "It's Britney, b----!" segment she did live.
Kisses Hand This Time
Madonna greeted her with "Hi Britney!" And Spears,
with her blonde hair flowing and red lips smiling,
moved to the beat as she sang the last chorus on
"Human Nature" with Madonna.
"She's not your b----" Madonna proclaimed, pointing
at Spears who replied with her classic line: "It's
Britney, b----!"
Madonna had to swing her around three times to get
her to loosen up a little bit and, in a far cry from
the 2003 smooch, kisses Spears on the hand as her
platform sunk below the stage.
"4 Minutes" came on and remixed into "Vogue" as
Spears disappeared from view.
Timberlake later joined Madonna to belt out a full
rendition of their duet "4 Minutes." Dressed in
black pants, a black jacket and scarf he and Madonna
really went at it, playing off two dancers, dancing
and grinding on each other. The crowd loved it.
"It was great!" a fan told PEOPLE at the show. "They
really kept each other going up there. And, wow,
only Madonna could bring the two exes together!"
Salute to Obama
At the close of the concert, a photo of
President-elect Barack Obama flashed on the screens
as Madonna announced, "We have something to
celebrate! I'm the happiest girl on the planet right
now."
She continued: "Sorry to hear we didn't win on Prop
8, but don't give up the fight. If we can have an
African American in the White House then when we can
have gay marriages."
Madonna, who split from director Guy Ritchie last
month, will wrap up the North American leg of her
tour Nov. 30 in Mexico City. |
